What ages do you teach? DO you teach kids?
We teach ages 12 and up. We do not currently offer any classes for kids.
Do I need to have previous training in martial arts to learn Balintawak?
No, you do not need to have any previous experience to take this class.
What should I bring to my first lesson?
Bring just yourself and a bottle of water. We have extra sticks that you can practice with for your first class.
How do I get started?
You can contact us to let us know you will be coming to class.
What should I wear to class?
Wear exercise clothes or other loose-fitting clothes that you can move well in.
How much are classes?
The first class is free! If you decide to continue training, you can sit down with the instructor and he will go over all options with you.
What are the weapons used in training?
We use kali sticks (sometimes also called escrima sticks)
What are the classes like? How are they structured?
Classes involve both drilling the basic strikes and learning new techniques. Students of all levels train together in class, and you will be paired up with other students to learn from each other. Balintawak has a tradition of community-based training which we strive to uphold in class.
Will I learn how to defend myself?
You will be taught several self-defense techniques in class.
I have health or movement restrictions, can I still learn Balintawak?
If you have any health concerns, please check with your doctor before starting a martial arts class. If you contact us, we can advise you further on safety precautions.
Will I get hurt?
All martial arts carry some risk of injury due to the physical nature of the activity, but we strive to keep students safe. Please check with your doctor before beginning any martial arts.
